It may seem unnecessary to some, but every dog owner knows that their pets deserve a special treat every once in a while as they selflessly do so much for us. Dawn and Ben Ford, a couple who share a passion for dogs, are the proud owners of the Sᴇᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ Barkery. They first met while working in the restaurant industry and later established a dog-walking enterprise. Their love for canines and culinary expertise have merged into the Sᴇᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ Barkery, which they founded. Although they were novices in the food truck industry, Dawn’s idea from years ago finally came to fruition in 2014, and she convinced Ben that there was no better time to pursue it.
Dawn came up with the idea of The Barkery when she found out that some store-bought dog treats were being recalled due to safety concerns. To ensure the safety of the dogs she walked, she started baking her own treats which became popular among their owners. Encouraged by the positive response, she began contemplating the possibility of turning it into a full-fledged business.
According to the couple, getting their truck “Buster” ready for the road was no easy feat, as they had to navigate various laws, permits, and regulations. Additionally, the differing views of each city towards food trucks only added to the challenges they faced. Despite obtaining their business license in October 2014, it took them a total of eight months to be fully prepared for their first event.
For five years now, The Barkery has been thriving and delighting dog owners with its scrumptious treats. The response from the community has been truly heartwarming, with many returning customers bringing their furry friends to indulge in the high-quality offerings. The Barkery boasts an impressive range of treats, from delicious duck necks to adorable puppy pretzels, and they even offer customized cake orders. Dawn, the mastermind behind The Barkery, personally prepares most of the baked goods herself and her three beloved rescue pups happily serve as taste-testers.
